XD

Das wäre nämlich super.

megacool! leider keien wfc-designs auf cybertron, sehr merkwürdig!

Swoop - 7/9/2010 um 19:10

Geil....haben will....
Köstlich ist natürlich der Satz von Breakdown:"I don't take Orders from you,Starscream....but I cant say I disagree..."

“Transformers Prime Shockwave, and.....

Hmm. I don't think they've announced the actual name of this very shiny character yet.
Overall, it's your basic two guys standing there pose. I liked the chance to get some lens flare in there, along with more molten slag, and the barrel rim of Shockwave's gun arm still red hot and smoking. Atmosphere, sparks, and distant burned out buildings tie it all together.”

Tobimus Prime - 30/10/2012 um 01:24

Geiles Cover

prv14337 pg4

PAGE 1: An Autobot fleet is leaving Cybertron. For those who may not be caught up on PRIME, can you say a little what has gone before, and why pick this point in history to start of your story?

MAIRGHREAD SCOTT: Okay, at this point in time, Optimus and Megatron have left for parts unknown and the Autobots who stayed behind are basically all holed up in Iacon fighting Shockwave and the Decepticons under his command. Our story starts right as Iacon, the last Autobot city, is falling and everyone who can get out is desperately trying to.

MIKE JOHNSON: We liked starting the story here because it’s a less explored part of Transformers lore. The vast majority of stories in any medium have focused on what happens to Optimus and the others. In RAGE OF THE DINOBOTS we get to shine the spotlight on those who were left behind, or intentionally stayed behind, after the Exodus.

prv14337 pg5

PAGE 2: At Iacon, Snarl fights with other Autobots who are still on the planet. How does the PRIME version of Snarl differentiate from his previous incarnations across the other Transformers franchises?

MAIRGHREAD SCOTT: We really wanted the Dinobots to have distinct personalities from each other. Snarl is the smartest, a real tech guy and the least comfortable with the idea that he’s now a Stegosaurus. So you won’t see him in Stego mode unless a fight starts getting really heated.

MIKE JOHNSON: The series is going to highlight what each Dinobot does and how they relate to each other. We have the opportunity to really explore the Dinobots and dig into each of their personalities in a way that no story has had before.

prv14337 pg6

PAGE 3: Grimlock and the other Dinobots arrive on the scene, and do what they do best. Grimlock is a legendary character. What was the greatest challenge you both face while writing him into the Prime universe?

MAIRGHREAD SCOTT: Grimlock’s voice is a constant challenge, but one of my favorites. In FALL OF CYBERTRON, he’s clearly a smart guy who has been through a lot, but he doesn’t speak that much. So we made a conscious choice to have Grimlock’s dialog break down on the page, especially when he’s exerting himself. That means we had to build Grimlock’s voice at 100% mental capacity and 70% and 50% and 20%. It’s a lot of work, but let us keep some of his best lines while still being able to give him a complex story new readers could relate to.

MIKE JOHNSON: Everybody knows the “Me Grimlock!” I even have a “Me Grimlock Kick Butt!” shirt I bought at San Deigo Comic-Con a few years back. We don’t want to completely abandon what has made the character so beloved. But at the same time we really want to emphasize that Grimlock is a leader, and it wouldn’t work if the leader’s monosyllabic cadence carried over into a less-than-average mind. So we are taking advantage of the PRIME reality to balance Grimlock’s tactical smarts with his traditional way of speaking. We do it in a fun and unexpected way that (fingers crossed) will encompass all aspects of his personality.

prv14337 pg7

PAGE 4: Slug and Sludge get their chance to do some damage in the battle. With a group of characters like the Dinobots, which parts of their characters traits would you say are the easiest and hardest to write and figure out?

MAIRGHREAD SCOTT: You want to find a balance in the characters. So Slug in FoC is a bit less aggressive than Slug in our comic, but with Sludge involved, we needed to balance the group’s dynamics. So Sludge became more of the voice of wisdom and Slug got a bit more gung ho.

MIKE JOHNSON: You don’t want them all to act the same, but at the same time you want them all to share the common experience of being Dinobots, which means being unique among the larger Autobot population. The best way to do it is to take the things they have in common: they’re soldiers, they have strange (to Cybertron) beast forms, they stay behind on Cybertron… and then show how each of them reacts in their own way to those conditions.

prv14337 pg8

PAGE 5: Swoop flies in on the act, and is loving it! What would you both say to a potential reader, who may have never have seen an episode of Prime about this mini-series and how it ties in with the TV show?

MAIRGHREAD SCOTT: You do not have to watch Prime to read this book. Although we tip our hat plenty to people who have loved the videogames and books and TV shows as much as we do, we wanted RAGE to be a place where new readers could find a footing in the Transformers brand. Autobots are the good guys, Decepticons are the bad guys. Cybertron is the planet. Everything else, we’ll explain.

MIKE JOHNSON: We are definitely trying to make the book accessible to anyone for whom this is their first exposure of any kind to Transformers. At the same time, we hope long-time fans enjoy the nods we’ve included to past lore. Add on to that that we hope it meshes well with the animated series and the video games, and we’re performing a careful – but very fun – balancing act. Hopefully it kicks butt.

Ken Christiansen zeigt auf seinem Blog das Cover zum Transformers Prime Comic Rage of the Dinobots #4. Seine Worte dazu sind: Grimlock vs. Ser-Ket, as the other Dinobots look on.
The editor, John Barber, suggested a fight scene for the cover of the final issue, pitting these two against each other. I did a few sketches, and we both settled on this one, portraying the clash at the point just before impact. The full weight of Ser-Ket is bearing down on Grimlock, stinger poised, and Grimlock has his sword extended, ready for a downward slash - who will draw first energon?

Well, that was the idea anyway. I hope it comes across...
Hier haben wir ein Interview mit Mairghread Scott über das IDW Comic Transformers Prime: Rage of the Dinobots.

Q: We’re at the end of the TRANSFORMERS PRIME: RAGE OF THE DINOBOTS mini-series. How have you found the whole comic writing experience? Is there anything you’ve learned that you could use while writing an episode of TRANSFORMERS PRIME? MAIRGHREAD SCOTT: It’s a different muscle, comics and TV, but it was a thrill to get stronger in another way. In comics, however much you streamline (a fight sequence, a dialog exchange), you can always streamline more and that’s a great habit for any medium. I will definitely cut with a deeper knife when I write TV.

Q: Would you say that you and Mike have achieved all of the goals that you set out for yourself in the telling of the mini-series? MAIRGHREAD SCOTT: Never. There is always more to explore. We barely touched on the background of a lot of the Dinobots. We’ve only just set up the idea of living in this really cool world. What we did do was introduce some fantastic bad guys, hint at a whole new era of Cybertronian history, tell the fans who we think the Dinobots are, and tell a good story. That’s why I’m so happy about this new series, BEAST HUNTERS. With a longer series I think we can really show off the best aspects of this new world. Of course, that only happen is fans buy it, so make sure to pre-order, Dino-lovers!

Q: You’ve talked previously about the characters you liked writing for. Were there any that surprised you while the scripts were being written? Or did each one do what you thought they should do? MAIRGHREAD SCOTT: I never knew how much I’d fall in love with Slug. It makes me feel curmudgeonly, but I love that he’s so grumpy because I almost never get to write someone like that. Even Ratchet is more of a team player than Slug. It was also a relief to write Sludge, who doesn’t have a ton of baggage. As much as I love the other Dinobots, Sludge is a breath of fresh air sometimes.

Q: Have you and Mike been keeping the other writers on PRIME fully aware of the events in the comic so they know the Dinobots continuity for when they appear on the series? MAIRGHREAD SCOTT: Luckily, I work side by side with Duane and the other writers every day, so we are able to keep each other up to date. They know exactly where we are and where we’re going. But it’s very important for us to avoid PRIME chasing after us or us chasing after them. For now the Dinobots are all ours to play with and that’s just fine with me.

Q: What was the big highlight for you in the series? Is there any one scene(s) that stand head and shoulder above the rest for you? MAIRGHREAD SCOTT: SPOILER ALERT FOR ISSUE 4! I love when Shockwave takes off Grimlock’s face. I really wanted it to have that Hannibal Lector feel and it came out perfectly.

Q: Have you had much of a chance to see how the fans have reacted to the mini-series and gauge their feedback? MAIRGHREAD SCOTT: Yes. Actually, I'll take this moment to give a shout-out to the guys and gals at Moonbase 2. They did a great interview with us and it was a treat to talk with such big TF fans. Often, there’s this fine line of wanting to interact with the fans and giving them the space to work things out among themselves. If a fan tweets me (and you’re welcome to at @MairghreadScott), I’m always happy to respond, but I know I’d hate to post a critique on a board if I knew I was going to have to face down the author and get into a point-by-point debate every time I did so. Anyway it’s a long way of saying I stalk the boards but don't comment.

Q: If you weren’t a writer right now, do you know what career path you would have taken instead? MAIRGHREAD SCOTT: Something a lot less fun. I can be anything by writing about them. Until Mad Scientists and Robotic Dinosaurs get their 401(k)s in order, I’ll stick to writing, thank you very much.

Q: Can we expect any more for you and Mike again on PRIME comics, if there should be any in the future? MAIRGHREAD SCOTT: Actually, they just announced our new TRANSFORMERS PRIME: BEAST HUNTERS book! Order code from Diamond is MAR130375 so buy a bunch! Same great Dinos, now with more beasts and a new, super-accessible format that we’re very excited about. Keep your ears to the ground, TF Fans…

San Diego, CA (February 28, 2013) –TRANSFORMERS fans hungering for more thrilling adventures with GRIMLOCK and his fierce DINOBOTS cohorts are in luck this May, when IDW Publishing presents TRANSFORMERS PRIME: BEAST HUNTERS! In this tie-in series to the upcoming season of “Transformers Prime” television show featuring the new BEAST HUNTERS saga, fans will get to experience a brand-new set of cyberfang-gnashing adventures based on the iconic brand from Hasbro!
For the thousands of years since the fall of CYBERTRON, the DINOBOTS haven’t been twiddling their claws! GRIMLOCK, SLUG. SLUDGE, SNARL and SWOOP have been martialing their forces and fighting the good fight against a slew of mysterious new villains.
The lauded creative team from TRANSFORMERS PRIME: RAGE OF THE DINOBOTS returns as writers Mairghread Scott and Mike Johnson team up with artist Agustin Padilla to chronicle the fierce AUTOBOT warriors’ resistance efforts. “There was a special kind of magic in that last TRANSFORMERS PRIME series,” said series Editor Carlos Guzman. “The fans really responded to the thrill-a-minute storytelling, and I can’t be more excited to work with Mairghread, Mike, and Agustin! And with our writers heavily involved in the Transformers Prime television series, we’re in a unique place to tell stories that matter!”
That story picks up miles beneath the charred remains of the TRANSFORMERS race’s smoldering home, CYBERTRON. As the survivors of CYBERTRON’s fall cling to the last bit of Energon left in its core, the DINOBOTS begin forging an unlikely network of hope underground, standing as beacons of resistance under constant attack, while they wait for the AUTOBOTS’ leader, OPTIMUS PRIME, to save them. While their efforts are nothing short of Herculean, can they hold off their shadowy assailants long enough for CYBERTRON to be saved? There’s only one way to find out!
TRANSFORMERS PRIME: BEAST HUNTERS is a veritable feast for Transformers fans of all stripes. Touting covers by Ken Christiansen and Michael Lark, this unique, action-packed adventure is one fans won’t want to miss!

PAGE 1: After the events from Rage of the Dinobots, was it easy to start an all new ongoing like this and run with it?
MAIRGHREAD SCOTT: Mike and I had always hoped for an ongoing to come out of Rage; the world is so rich it seemed a shame not to explore it. Of course, there is a significant time jump from the mini-series to Beast Hunters so that we can (eventually) bring in the cast of the TV show. That made picking out exactly when and where to start a bit of a challenge, but this has been a really fun story to write over all.

PAGE 2: How scarred are the Dinobots from their experience in ROTD? Has the current situation on Cybertron forced them to change much and adapt?
MAIRGHREAD SCOTT: I wouldn’t say the Dinobots are so much “scared” from their time in ROTD as liberated by it. They have a chance to build a life on their terms at the end of Rage. Issue 1 is about what their new roles are in society and how they’re coping. Of course, there are always challenges to face, but I think the Dinobots are definitely moving forward rather than falling back.

PAGE 3: Considering his position now, is Grimlock the one facing the greatest of challenges from everyone else on the planet? Even though most are struggling to survive more than he is?
MAIRGHREAD SCOTT: Grimlock is dealing with the hardest part of being a leader: that not everything is in your control. Since he’s a ’Bot striving for control as much a possible in his personal life (Remember his problems with his Dino-mode in Rage?), any problem he can’t immediately solve is really difficult for him to cope with. And since he runs the last real city on Cybertron, there’s a lot he’s not going to be able to solve.

PAGE 4: Are you finding the challenge of writing an ongoing series as opposed to a mini-series more vigorous or demanding than what you may have initially believed?
MAIRGHREAD SCOTT: On the contrary, I am first and foremost a long-format writer. I’m always looking to explore every nook and cranny of continuity. Although I love the cleanliness of a single arc mini-series, it’s the month-by-month floppies that let me really dig in to all of Cybertron’s forgotten corners.
Wir haben hier 5 Seiten aus dem IDW Comic Transformers Prime: Beast Hunters Heft 2, zu denen Mairghread Scott seine Kommentare gegeben hat.

PAGE 1: What's your approach to Kickback in this series? How do you make him different from other versions of the character?
MAIRGHREAD SCOTT: I wanted to preserve the voice Kickback had in the FALL OF CYBERTRON videogame. It was a really distinctive speech pattern and a lot of fun to write. Beyond that, I just wanted to make him wheedle-y enough to be a fun Decepticon, but responsible enough to be a believable leader.

PAGE 2: With so many fights in Transformers, how do you try and make each one a little bit different? Is it a big challenge?
MAIRGHREAD SCOTT: “Who is in the fight” and “where are they,” are the most important aspects of a unique fight scene. Can someone fly? Are there narrow places in the room to hide? Also, not everyone approaches a fight the same way. I think Kickback is happy to let others soften the Dinos up for him while he uses his speed to finish them off. Someone like Grimlock would never fight that way. Whenever I get stuck writing a fight scene I go back to those questions: who and where.

PAGE 3: What’s driving Sludge this time, after events in RAGE OF THE DINOBOTS and the FALL OF CYBERTRON comics? How has he changed as a character?
MAIRGHREAD SCOTT: In “Rage” Sludge was the ’bot with no problems, which is odd ’cause he was left to die, twice. You don’t just “not mind” something like that. So in this story, I wanted Sludge to actually face his past and move beyond it. This fight is the tipping point for Sludge to do just that.

PAGE 4: If you could pick a new alt mode for Sludge, what other Dinosaur would you pick?
MAIRGHREAD SCOTT: An Ankylosaurus. Sludge is a more defensive-minded fighter than the average Dinobot and I’d have his tail turn into a hammer in ’bot mode. It’s always fun to have design elements multi-task like that.

PAGE 5: If we go back in time and give Sludge the same choices, do you think he would still become a Dinobot or choose to go a completely different route?
MAIRGHREAD SCOTT: Well none of the Dinobots had a choice in the matter. I know that Sludge would never have left his friends to go into a fight without him, but given the choice I don’t think that Sludge would have become a Dinobot. In fact, if it weren’t for the caste system and the war, I don’t know that he’d have become a soldier at all.

Jim - You're welcome!

Va'al - First things first - how did the idea for the Art of Prime book come about?
Jim - Well, it was something that I'd been pitching for quite a while, before the show actually aired. I was living in Los Angeles at the time the Prime show had been announced, and one of the people in my extended circle of friends was Christophe Vacher (Visual Effects Art Director on the series). I knew him, and I knew he was working on Prime. I pitched the idea, he seemed interested, we went back to the studios, and nothing really happened for a while. I kept checking with IDW too, who had expressed a vague interest, and I pitched the idea several times. Then around June of this year I got an email from my editor: we're going ahead with Art of Prime!
I wanted to do a book about Prime but what made me decide it would be an art book was possibly the actual conversations with Christophe. We both realised Prime wouldn't work in the style of an AllSpark Almanac, the tone of the show is very different. So we decided the book would look at the art, at the process. IDW already had a successful product in the Art of Fall of Cybertron book, they were willing to do it again.
What I believe is one of the main points about the show is that the stories, characters, acting, they're all good - but what is really outstanding is the visuals!

Va'al – Very good point, the visual elements of the show have been acknowledged by many, and won awards all over the place! You've worked on The Ark and AllSpark Almanac previously, and you said you knew that Art of Prime would be different – how so?
Jim - Having made the decision that it was going to be an art book focused us, directed us differently. What we were working on with previous books was the story perspective, the characters, the events. With this one, we approached it from a design perspective: in some ways I wanted to get out of the way of the creators. There is very little of my voice in the first half of the book, and that was a conscious decision – I didn't want the readers to read about what I felt about the images. I wanted them to hear from the creators, what they were proud of, what their perspective on the process was. I thought it'd be a lot better to get them to speak.
In the first three sections, I let Jose Lopez (Art Director/Characters and Props) talk as much as possible, something that I didn't want to do with the Almanacs, something I possibly would've done with The Ark if we had access to the creators. As it stands, the Prime creators were more than happy to do it, and it was an extra incentive that they were able to do it in their own office, in their own time and talking about their own work. I think the interviews really help the tone of the book – it makes a big impact.

Va'al – It sounds like you were really engaged in the work around and about the book. What was your favourite part about putting together Art of Prime?
Jim - Definitely getting the chance to work so closely with the creative staff. At this point I've done quite a lot of books, from anthologies to collections, Transformers, G.I. Joe, articles for fan magazines – I find it really exciting to turn raw material into a book. But I've done it before. This time I got a chance to really jump in, go to the studios, see the creators work (they were at work on Predacons Rising at the time). Definitely the highlight of putting it all together. A secondary pleasure was getting to see the animatics for Predacons Rising about three months before anyone else: I contacted one of the producers, as I had a fair bit of material that I couldn't find on the show at the time, so I wondered if it was for Predacons Rising and if I could get a script or something to set it in context. I'm not sure they understood what I was asking for at first, but once they got it they sent the whole thing, with my name watermarked all over it!

Va'al - Well, some people just have that type of contacts, don't they? Once you placed all the material you had, was there anything taken out, or things you didn't include?
Jim – There was a lot that we just didn't have space for, as it's already a 200-page book. I possibly still have another 20 pages that I wanted to put in, but did not need to get in. I would've liked to have extra pages for Shockwave, the Insecticons, Vehicons. Maybe spend a little bit more time on Silas and Cylas and MECH. I had an extra page for Knockout - no, Breakdown. Knockout was one of the last pages to get finalized, as we only had black and white artwork for the car mode. So I contacted Mathias Dougherty (Production Manager) for a color image, I told him 'It's Knockout, man! He'll kill me if he doesn't look his best!'; he laughed, and set off to look for the gorgeous artwork you now see in the book.
So yes, a lot more little things, but nothing that the book can't live without. I'm really quite proud of this one.

Va'al – It definitely looks comprehensive, and stunning. But do you think it'll appeal to all fans of the franchise? How would you sell it to a new reader?
Jim - Even if you're not interested in art books, the focus for this one is on process. Any Transformers fan, any fan of animation in general will find the process that goes into the creation of a cartoon extremely fascinating, I believe.
And it's very rare to have an art book like this for a TV show, you usually only get them for movies. As I said, I'm really proud of the result.

Va'al – I've been reading through it, you definitely should be. Thanks again Jim, this was a great quick chat! Any last words?
Jim - Thanks for the interest! I really hope you all enjoy the book.
